Latest revision as of 13:31, 12 June 2010

I received this comment via e-mail, and I think it is appropriate to post here as a sort of letter to the editor. --Argy 04:39, 20 January 2009 (UTC)

As I am certain you are aware, any copyright holder routinely trademarks names of products that they don't intend to actually utilize simply for legal purposes, so as to have legal recourse against unauthorized third-parties that try to make or market products or properties that use those names. While I do not at all disagree that these could, in theory, be 5th generation titles or that there will indeed be a 5th generation, I feel that to allow the article to be titled as it is needlessly sensationalizes what could very easily be nothing more than a routine trademarking of potential names.

Some notes

Just wanted to point out some information:

  • ポケットモンスター赤 (Red)
  • ポケットモンスター朱 (Scarlet 1)
  • ポケットモンスター紅 (Crimson)
  • ポケットモンスター緋 (Scarlet 2)

I looked these up in a dictionary:

赤; 紅; 朱 【あか】 (n) (1) red; crimson; scarlet; (2) red-containing colour (e.g. brown, pink, orange); (3) (often written as アカ) (col) Red (i.e. communist); (4) (See 赤信号) (abbr) red light; (n) (5) (See 赤字) (abbr) red ink (i.e. in finance or proof-reading); (in) the red; (adj-no,n-pref) (6) (See 赤の他人) complete; total; perfect; obvious
紅 【くれない(P); べに(P); こう】 (n) (1) deep red; crimson; (2) (べに only) rouge; lipstick
朱(P); 緋 【あけ(P); ひ(緋)】 (n) (1) scarlet; red; (2) (See 朱に染まる) blood

It appears that the Scarlet and Crimson entries are merely alternate Kanji spellings for Pokemon Red, which can be translated as Crimson or Scarlet in English. 赤, 朱, and 紅 can all be pronounced "aka", the word for "red". DanPMK 13:22, 20 January 2009 (UTC)

Update: A friend of mine who actually knows Japanese has told me that the 2nd one could be translated as "Vermillion". DanPMK 14:23, 20 January 2009 (UTC)
Update 2: 灰 means "ash" and 茶 means "tea". "Grey" and "brown" would be 灰色 and 茶色 ("ash color" and "tea color") respectively. Perhaps we should have an article for this. DanPMK 14:37, 20 January 2009 (UTC)

Scarlet

We have Pokémon Scarlet on there twice. Is it supposed to be that way, or is this a fluke? --Martonimos 22:27, 20 January 2009 (UTC)

I think it's a fluke. I fixed it. --Politoed666 23:19, 20 January 2009 (UTC)
Actually, it was registered twice.--Mew a.k.a. Prmatt11 03:41, 21 January 2009 (UTC)

Red, Green & Blue

Could re-registering these mean they'll release them as downloads for DSi? Captain Skank 12:15, 27 January 2009 (UTC)

It might. It could be DSiWare or even, like FRLG, a plain DSi release. I can see walking via the bottom screen, with the PokéTch being on the top touch screen.--Mew a.k.a. Prmatt11 18:11, 27 January 2009 (UTC)
