Bulbanews:Article submission

Revision as of 00:20, 28 April 2009 by Tc26 (talk | contribs)

Bulbanews is a news service that you can contribute to. The lifecycle of an article is very simple:

Draft submitted Editorial review Article published

Unlike most news services, your submissions to Bulbanews are immediately visible to all and are included in updates to the front page (under the heading developing stories) — so even if there are no editors on duty, your contribution will not be missed.

Article submission process

Clicking on "Submit a new article" in the site's left navigation panel will open the new article assistant, a form where the author inputs basic information about the article.

Basic information

  • Title: an informative headline like in a professional newspaper. Only the first letter of the headline and proper nouns are capitalized, and the title must contain a verb.
    • Example: Pokémon takes second-place at Japanese box office
    • Example: Ranger sequel gets U.S. release date
  • Tagline: also known as a subhead. This is another headline that provides complementary information to the article's title. The following are examples of appropriate taglines for the above two example titles.
    • Example: Movie 11 earns $US$9.44 million in two days
    • Example: 'Shadows of Almia' to be released Nov. 10
  • Type: type of article.
    • Options: news article, rumor, feature article, column, editorial, opinion piece, opinion column, breaking news, local news
    • Most articles are of the news article type.
  • Category: organizational system for Bulbanews.
    • Major options: anime, events, games, manga, merchandise, Pokémon meta, TCG, TFG
  • Picture: relevant image, if any, that is located on the Bulbagarden Archives server. Images inputted into this text box require only the filename and file extension, no prefix needed. If no image, leave the field blank.
    • Example: Platinum-box.png
  • Caption: a short, two to three word description of the picture. If no image, leave the field blank.
    • Example: Platinum box art

Source information

  • Type: Most articles are of the Bulbanews type; that is, they are written by a Bulbanews account holder.
    • Bulbanews
      • An article author with a Bulbanews account.
    • Independent writer
      • An article author not affiliated with Bulbanews.
    • Other Web site
      • If the article was originally published elsewhere. This should only be used if an article is directly from the source.
    • Press release
      • If the article is an official press release. This too should only be used if an article is directly from the source.
    • Unknown
      • Avoid using. This would only be if there was a rumor spread person-to-person with an unknown source.
  • Name
    • If the source type is Bulbanews, then it is the author's username.
    • If the source type is external, then name the source.
  • Link
    • If the source is Bulbanews, the link would go to the author's profile.
      • Example: User:Argy
    • If the source is Bulbanews, and the author does not have a Bulbanews profile, but on on Bulbapedia, the link would go to the author's Bulbapedia profile.
      • Example: bp:User:Argy
    • If the source is external, the link would be a URL to the source.

Discussion information

  • Type
    • Options are None or Bulbagarden Forums. If the article topic has a forum topic, select the latter.
  • Link
    • For None, leave this field blank. For Bulbagarden Forums, enter the five-digit thread number (at the end of the thread URL).

Blurb

This, in most cases, will be the lead sentence or sentences of the article. These sentences should give the most important and relevant information of the article. In journalism/inverted pyramid style, this information is generally the who/what/where/when/why/how angle.

  • Example: Giratina and the Sky's Bouquet: Shaymin made more than 1 billion yen (US$9.44 million) at the Japanese box office this weekend, earning it second place, but it failed to defeat Studio Ghibli and Hayao Miyazaki's new film, Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea.
  • Example: Pokémon Ranger Batonnage, the sequel to the first Pokémon Ranger game for Nintendo DS, will be released in North America on Nov. 10 under the name Pokémon Ranger: Shadows of Almia.
