Over the weekend a $0.99 app was released in the app store called Pokemon Yellow. It quickly reached the #2 highest paid app in the app store and had a 2 star rating. If you purchased the game it would display a picture of Ash, Pikachu, Charizard, among other Pokemon, then would crash. If you looked in the picture preview down at the bottom of the app you would see a picture of Ash with his Pokemon, and what gives the app away is a picture of a Raichu (who is unobtainable without trading in Yellow) fighting a Seel from Fire Red/Leaf Green. You can still download the app (although it was pulled from the app store) for free if you jailbreak.

Nintendo has released a press release saying:

“We continue to combat the unauthorised release of games, applications and merchandise that trick our fans into purchasing something that does not meet our quality standards … Fans who encounter questionable products should report to us immediately so we can keep other fans from falling victim to these scams…”.
