According to Daniel Vuckovic (@VOOK64) in his tweet, the Australian copy of Pokémon White Version can be played on a Japanese Nintendo 3DS, despite the fact that DSi-enhanced games, of which Pokémon Black and White Versions are, are region-locked and should not play on a Nintendo DSi or Nintendo 3DS system of differing region.

Normally, a DSi-enhanced, DSi-exclusive or 3DS game cannot be played in a system of differing region.
