In the April 2014 issue of CoroCoro Comics, Darkrai was unveiled to be the event distribution for the 17th movie. Darkrai will be available for those who pre-order tickets for the movie. Darkrai won a poll contest that was held to determine which Legendary Pokémon between Manaphy, Jirachi, Victini, and Darkrai would be distributed with the movie. Darkrai will be featured in the short Pikachu, What Kind of Key Is This?. It will be distributed to the Pokémon X and Y games.
Darkrai will be available from April 19, which is when the pre-order tickets first go on sale, until Sept. 30, 2014. The pre-order tickets must be purchased before the movie's release on July 19. It will be level 50, come in a Dusk Ball, and will have the OT of Nightmare. It has the moves Dark Void, Phantom Force, Dark Pulse and Dream Eater. Phantom Force is a move that Darkrai cannot normally learn.
