The official Pokémon website has announced further gameplay details for The Thieves and the 1000 Pokémon.

The object of the game is to steal back jewels that have been stolen by thieves. To do so, players control a group of Pokémon that have to defeat the thieves' Pokémon that stand in their way. The thieves in the game; Ninja Riot and his Greninja, and Marilyn Flame and her Delphox, also appear in Pokémon the Movie: Diancie and the Cocoon of Destruction.

Players can choose to start out with one of the Kalos starter Pokémon as their group's leader, with this choice having effects on gameplay.

The game is split into stages, with each stage having multiple battles. During battles, the player can send in their Pokémon with the A (Froakie), X (Chespin) and Y Buttons (Fennekin), and have to send in enough Pokémon to overwhelm the enemy group of Pokémon.

However, it is not possible to replenish this supply of Pokémon during a stage, so it is advisable to only send in a minimum of Pokémon to win each battle, preserving the rest for later battles in the same stage. In some cases, the enemy Pokémon may not notice the player's group of Pokémon immediately, so it is possible to attempt sneaking by battles quietly to preserve the amount of Pokémon left for battle; however, if caught, a battle will ensue.

The game can connect with other players automatically through StreetPass to gain other Pokémon. When players StreetPass, they receive the Pokémon that the other player set as their group's leader. At the end of each battle, a certain amount of Pokémon will be exhausted and return home, so it is advised that players continue to StreetPass until the game is complete. However, if players cannot manage to StreetPass enough to proceed in the game, they can opt to use Play Coins instead. However, when recruiting Pokémon using Play Coins, the player can only recruit the same species of Pokémon they chose as their leader at the beginning of the game.

If the game is taken to a cinema showing Pokémon the Movie: Diancie and the Cocoon of Destruction, a special extra can be downloaded, and upon successful completion of the special extra, the game can connect with Pokémon X and Y; however, no further details have been revealed.

This game is available via the eShop on Japanese 3DS consoles from June 5 to September 30.
