The top {{bp|Pokémon Trading Card Game}} and {{bp|Pokémon games|Video Game}} players from across the World will be competing at the Hilton Waikoloa Village resort in Waikoloa, Hawaii from August 10, 2012 until August 12, 2012.in the World Championships. They will be competing for the World Championship trophy, travel awards, invitations to the 2013 World Championships, and a scholarship award.

The registration for Pokémon Trading Card Game players will take place on August 10th from 10 p.m. until 1 p.m. and the late registration will take place at 8 a.m. on August 11th. There will be seven rounds of Swiss Play, then the top 32 players in each age division will compete in one round of Single Elimination, and then the top 16 players from each age division will compete on Sunday to finish the tournament. The players meeting will take place at 9:30 a.m. 

The registration for video game players will take place on August 10th from 1 a.m. until 1 p.m. For the video game players, the late registration will take place on August 10th at 8:00 a.m. There will be five rounds of Swiss Play, then the last round will be completed around 4 p.m. the top 8 players in each age division will compete on Sunday to finish the tournament. The players meeting will take place at 9:30 a.m. 

For video game and Pokémon Trading Card game players who have not qualified for the 2012 World Championships their is a last qualifier tournament being held August 10, 2012 at Hilton Waikoloa Village resort in Waikoloa, Hawaii. 

The registration for Pokémon Trading Card Game players will take place on August 10th from 8 a.m. until 8:30 a.m. The players meeting will take place at 9:30 a.m. 

The registration for video game players for the Masters Division will take place on August 10th from 8 a.m. until 8:30 a.m. while the Juniors and Seniors Division players can register from 1 p.m. until 1:30 p.m. The players meeting for the Masters Division players will take place at 9:30 a.m. while the players meeting for the Juniors and Seniors Division players will take place at 2 p.m.

Trading Card Game players must have the following items:
* Legal 60 card deck
* Randomizer and damage/Status Condition counters
* Prepared decklist for registration

Video Game players must have the following items:
* A copy of {{bp|Pokémon Black and White Versions|Pokémon Black or White version}} for the Nintendo DS or Nintendo 3DS systems
* Nintendo DS or Nintendo 3DS
* A team of legal Pokémon according to the tournament rules. 

The divisions for the Pokémon Trading Card Game and video game players are as follows:
* Junior Division - Players born in 2001 or later
* Senior Division - Players born in 1997, 1998, 1999, or 2000
* Master Division - Players born in 1996 or earlier
