New rules for the Pokémon Video Game Championships have been published.

Live Competitions are local video game competitions set up by the use of QR Codes. They are now back in {{bp|World Championships|VGC Premier Challenges}} and higher TPCi or {{bp|The Pokémon Company International}} events. TPCi operate in the West. Premier Challenges are small events in the Championship Series season and are for players of all abilities to try competitive Pokémon play in person.
Four moves are now prohibited from use in the Video Game Championships until the release of version 1.2 of {{bp|Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon}}. {{bp|The Pokémon Company International}} has identified these moves as causing a bug that results in games disconnecting. The banned moves are as follows:

It has been announced that 4 specific moves are banned until the version 1.2 update. These will be banned effective immediately at all {{bp|Play! Pokémon}} Premier Events and continuing until the release of patch 1.2 for {{bp|Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon}}:

Additionally, Championship Series events not operated with or by The Pokémon Company International must be conducted through {{bp|Festival Plaza}} until further notice. This is not included in the rule document, but was announced on Pokémon.com in the same announcement. It is also intended to mitigate the same game-disconnecting bug.
