Every Pokémon in the National Pokédex may be used, with the exception of Mew, Celebi, Jirachi, Deoxys, Phione, Manaphy, Darkrai, Shaymin, Arceus, Victini, Keldeo, Meloetta, Genesect, and Diancie.

Players may only have a maximum of two of these Pokémon on their team: Mewtwo, Lugia, Ho-Oh, Kyogre, Groudon, Rayquaza, Dialga, Palkia, Giratina, Reshiram, Zekrom, Kyurem, Xerneas, Yveltal, Zygarde. Players are allowed to use Pokémon that were Poké Transported from the Generation V games. Pokémon must be registered in the Battle Box on the PC. Pokémon will be set to level 50.

Each match will last a maximum of 30 minutes. Players will have 90 seconds to choose which Pokémon they will battle with and will have 60 seconds for each turn. Players may battle up to 10 times a day. The rankings will be released on Feb. 20. To receive the Poké Miles, each player will have to record a win or loss in one battle.
