The regional Video Game Championships tournaments started in America last month; the earliest they have ever done. Today, The Pokémon Company International has announced that the 2012 VGC season will be getting an early start in Europe as well, beginning on March 3rd 2012 with a return trip to Birmingham, England! The dates and locations for the European leg are as follows:

UK Date: Saturday 3rd March Location: Birmingham NEC: Hall 11

Germany Date: Saturday 10th March Location: Essen, Messe Essen, Halle 1A

France Date: Saturday 17th March Location: Paris, Espace Champerret, Hall C

Spain Date: Saturday 24th March Location: Madrid, IFEMA, Pabellón 5

Italy Date: Sunday 1st April Location: Milan, Centro Congressi Milanfiori, Strada 1

Like last year, participants will be sorted into three age divisions, although the cap for each division has been decreased: If you were born in 2001 or later, you are in the Junior division (Cap: 175). If you were born in 1997, 1998, 1999 or 2000, you are in the Senior division (Cap: 275). If you were born in 1996 or earlier, you are in the Master division (Cap: 450).

The rules this year are the previously announced Play! Pokémon 2011/12 rules. All of the Top 4 in each age division (As opposed to last year's Top 2) will win free travel and accommodation to the World Championships in Hawaii on August 10th-12th (if the winner is under 18, they get paid travel and accommodation for a parent/guardian as well).

In order to participate, you will need a Pokémon Trainer Club account and a Player ID. If you do not have a Player ID, you can receive one by logging into your account and visiting pokemon.com. Competitors must bring their Player ID to compete.
