The Johto Classic Wi-Fi competition has been announced. Participants will receive a special Pokémon which will be revealed some time before registration for the competition begins. Players may sign up between midnight UTC on May 19 and 11:59 p.m. on May 26. The competition will run from midnight UTC on May 27 until 11:59 p.m. on May 29. The results will be announced some time in June. Players born in 2001 or later will be in the Junior/Senior Division. Players born in or before 2000 will be in the Master Division. There are 50,000 spots available on a first-come, first-serve basis.

This competition will be Single Battles, and only Pokémon from #001 Bulbasaur through #248 Tyranitar may be used. Players cannot use Mewtwo, Mew, Lugia, Ho-Oh, or Celebi in this competition. Pokémon brought over from the Generation V games may be used. Players must use the Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire games. Only three of the six Pokémon in the Battle Box will be used in each battle. No Pokémon may hold a Mega Stone. Players will have to win or lose three battles to be able to get the special Pokémon.

All Pokémon will be automatically set to level 50 for this competition. Each battle will last a maximum of one hour. Players will have 60 seconds to pick the three Pokémon they will battle with and 60 seconds per turn to make a move. Participants may battle 10 times a day up to a maximum of 30.
