In a video released by [https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCtGpEJy6plK7Zvnyuczc2vQ the official NintendoWiiUUK YouTube channel] containing 54 must-see things for Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, {{p|Mewtwo}} has been announced as a future playable character for {{bp|Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS/Wii U}}. It will be downloadable for free for players who have both the 3DS version and the Wii U version, and register both of these games with Club Nintendo. Because implementing Mewtwo in these games is still in development, the DLC will be available due Spring 2015. 

This is Mewtwo's second playable appearance in the Super Smash Bros. series, after previously appearing in {{bp|Super Smash Bros. Melee}} as an unlockable character. Mewtwo is the first character in the Super Smash Bros. series to be available through DLC.
