During {{bp|Nintendo}}'s press conference at E3 today, the successor to the {{bp|Wii}}, the {{bp|Wii U}}, was been revealed. Even though this news is not yet directly related to Pokémon, future Pokémon console games will likely appear on this platform. 

While it supports the controllers of the Wii, this new console will be equipped with a new controller, one with a 6.2-inch touch screen, which players can use even when not using the TV to play games. The touch screen controller also comes with a stylus, much like the {{bp|Nintendo DS}} and {{bp|Nintendo 3DS|3DS}} series of systems, and a camera that faces players. 

The system also has high-definition graphics and capabilities, allowing an output of 1080p on television screens; a slightly lower resolution is available for the touch screen. All Wii games and, as previously mentioned, controllers are backwards compatible with this new system, however GameCube games are not. The Wii U is set for a 2012 release, with upcoming releases for the system to include the likes of {{wp|Tekken}}, {{bp|Super Smash Bros.}} and {{bp|pk:Pikmin series|Pikmin}}.

E3 (or the {{wp|Electronic Entertainment Expo}}) is an annual video game conference and show held in {{wp|Los Angeles}} in the United States. Fans come from all over to learn of releases from the likes of Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft. This year's E3 featured news such as, for Nintendo, the revelation of the aforementioned Wii U, as well as new games to be released for the said system and the 3DS, for Sony, the revelation of the new handheld system, the {{wp|PlayStation Vita}}, and, for Microsoft, the announcement for new games, many of which use the motion-sensing {{wp|Kinect}}.
