Nintendo has become the latest victim in a series of high-profile hacks, it was revealed on Sunday. Believed to be the first such incident targeting Nintendo, the breach affected one of the company's US servers, and did not result in the theft of customer or company data, according to spokesman Ken Toyoda.

Hacker group Lulz Security claimed responsibility for the incident and posted a server configuration file allegedly obtained during the security breach. Via Twitter, the group stated that "We're not targeting Nintendo. We like the N64 too much - we sincerely hope Nintendo plugs the gap." In a later post, they confirmed that the security hole had been fixed.

Lulz Security has previously claimed responsibility for a hack of Sony which resulted in the theft of a large amount of customer data, as well as hacks of PBS, Fox and AT&T.
