It has been announced that a Nintendo 3DS application called Pokédex 3D will be available for free at the launch of the 3DS's eShop service on June 6, 2011.

An entry with Tepig

Pokédex 3D will feature the 153 officially-unveiled Pokémon of Generation V, omitting Keldeo, Meloetta and Genesect. It will provide information about each Pokémon's possible moves, abilities and evolutions, and will also provide 3D models of each to view which can be rotated through a full 360 degrees. Entries will be able to be bookmarked, and search functionality with filters based on specified critera will be available.

Players will initially have the Pokédex entries of sixteen Pokémon; whether the sixteen are random per player or a set group is unknown. More entries can be obtained through the SpotPass service, which will provide three random entries per day, trading entries with friends, or through scanning QR codes.

Additionally, through the 3DS's augmented reality functionality, the app will be able to insert the Pokémon 3D models into photos taken with the 3DS's camera.

The release of this app may provide some insight into the cease and desist letters sent to Android and iTunes app developers ten days ago: many fans speculated the removal of fan-made apps indicated an official application would be on its way.
