The Pokémon Company International has announced a range of celebrations for the Pokémon 20th Anniversary. These parallel the scale of celebrations seen for the Pokémon 10th Anniversary.

Fans are encouraged to use the hashtag #Pokemon20 to share their experiences with Pokémon. It is hinted that Pokémon Company International's favorite submissions will get some kind of prize.

The official website also includes an interactive timeline, detailing the important Pokémon events in each year of the franchise's existence. The timeline can be found here.

Due to the amount of content announced, there are several Bulbanews articles on these announcements. A full list are included under the "See also" section.

Mythical Pokémon distributions

Mythical Pokémon will be distributed each month throughout 2016, starting in February. See this Bulbanews article for more details.

Coverplates and bundles

Pokémon bundles with the New Nintendo 3DS and Nintendo 2DS, as well as cover plates, have been announced. See this Bulbanews article for more details.

Pokémon Day

The Pokémon Company International has declared Feb 27, 2016 to be Pokémon Day, in celebration of the original Pokémon games Pokémon Red and Green being released in Japan on that day 20 years prior. (This day is unrelated to past events of the same name in Europe and Singapore.)

On Pokémon Day, Toys "R" Us stores in the United States will have special foil Pikachu and Magikarp TCG cards from the new Generations set, a Pokémon activity book, and a poster with the original 151 Pokémon from Generation I. They will be available until supplies last.

Anime

iTunes, Google Play, and Amazon will have 12 of the Pokémon movies available for digital download this year. Pokémon: The First Movie, Pokémon the Movie 2000, and Pokémon 3: The Movie are among the movies that will be available and will be digitally remastered.

Pokémon TV will be featuring Pokémon films every month throughout the year.

In the same vein as A Pokémon Super Story! Diancie and the Cocoon of Destruction, A Pokémon Super Story! Pokémon: The First Movie! will be available on iTunes. This 48-page long interactive book will contain 24 video clips from the movie.

Merchandise

PokemonCenter.com will be selling special merchandise to celebrate the Pokémon 20th Anniversary.

The merchandise that will be available on PokemonCenter.com includes:

  • A Pokémon 20th Anniversary Pikachu pin that is over 2 inches wide, and a Pokémon 20th Anniversary lanyard (soon)
  • A T-shirt in both kids' and adults' sizes with a colorful Pokémon 20th Anniversary logo (early 2016)
  • A raglan baseball shirt with the Pokémon 20th Anniversary logo (spring 2016)
