Pokémon Adventures to be reissued in France
Kurokawa, the manga publisher from France, has announced a new omnibus release of the first two story arcs of the Pokémon Adventures manga, known as "Pokémon, La Grande Aventure" in French. The new releases will begin with volume one on June 12, 2014 (ISBN 2368520139). In total, three omnibus volumes are planned for release, which will cover the entirety of the Red, Green & Blue chapter and the Yellow chapter.
The Red, Green & Blue chapter and the Yellow chapter were originally published in the 1990s by Glénat, a different publisher. However, their publication of the series was suddenly interrupted due to copyright issues and their Pokémon releases went out of print. Glénat's release of the Adventures series contained several edits to characters' names, including the naming of Red to "Sacha" and Blue to "Régis", after Ash Ketchum and Gary Oak's names in the French dub of the Pokémon anime. Kurokawa's releases will feature an entirely new translation, with promises to remain more faithful to the Japanese version and remain consistent with their current releases of the Black & White chapter.
In 2011, Kurokawa began publishing volumes compiling the magazine version of the Black & White chapter. These translations used the name Pokémon Noir et Blanc for the series, as the copyright to the title "Pokémon, La Grande Aventure" was still held by Glénat at the time. Pokémon manga has seen great success in France in recent years, which led to a highly publicised visit to France by Adventures creators Hidenori Kusaka and Satoshi Yamamoto in 2012. Kurokawa has also released several of the movie manga adaptations in French.
