Pokémon coming to high school stage
David Narter, a Chicago-area high school teacher, is bringing a unique production to the stage this weekend. He has written and directed Pokémon: Gotta Buy 'em All (a Parody), a play based on the Pokémon anime. The rendition is based on Tracy West's adaptation novel Pokémon: The First Movie.
Students will perform the show without costumes or props and are on stage during the play's running time, which is around 30 minutes. According to Narter, the satire is "quick paced, loud, weird and funny."
The production debuts Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m. in the Little Theater at East Leyden High School, 3400 N. Rose St., Franklin Park, Ill. Admission is $2 for students and $3 for adults. To add to the parody, the first 50 ticket buyers each night receive a free special edition card featuring a cast member.
The show will later be performed at the Illinois High School Association Group Interpretation competition.
