This month's issue of the Japanese CoroCoro magazine, the penultimate issue before the launch of Pokémon X and Y. This new issue confirms the existence of a new mechanic for the series: Mega Pokémon.

The new MegaPokémon

Details on Mega Pokémon are still scarce, although we know that it is a new process of evolution called "Mega Evolution", with the previously revealed Mewtwo forme finally being confirmed as MegaMewtwo. Pokémon revealed to be obtaining new "Mega forms" are Mewtwo, Ampharos, Blaziken, Mawile and Absol. The method of obtaining them is also unknown at this point, although the first SpotPass event for the new games has been announced. From 12th October until 15th January, a Torchic will be distributed holding an item known as "Blaziken Knight", with this Torchic having the ability to become a MegaBlaziken. A mysterious item known as a "Mega Stone" was mentioned, but what role it or the Blaziken Knight item hold in obtaining a MegaPokémon is currently unknown.

Mawile has been confirmed to be retconned to a Steel/Fairy-type, with MegaMawile also having the type combination. MegaMawile has the ability Huge Power, MegaBlaziken has Speed Boost, MegaLucario's ability is Adaptability and MegaAbsol's ability is Magic Bounce.

Aside from Mega Evolutions, we also have three new species of Pokémon revealed:

Meekuru is the pre-evolution of the previously revealed Gogoat. It is 0.9m tall and weighs 31.0kg.

Dedenne is an Electric/Fairy-type Pokémon, standing at 0.2m tall and weighing 2.2kg. It is categorised as the Antenna Pokémon and has the abilities Pick Up and a new ability called Cheek Pouches.

Horubii, the Digging Pokémon, is a new Normal-type Pokémon similar in appearance to Tappy from GameFreak's HarmoKnight with the abilities Pick Up and Cheek Pouches. It is 0.4m tall and weighs 5.0kg.
