{{bp|The Pokémon Company}} has announced on their website that they will be hosting a {{bp|Wi-Fi}} tournament through the {{bp|Global Battle Union}}. For the first time in the fifth generation, most Pokémon in the National Pokédex will be usable in an official tournament.
The tournament, called the 「ポケモングローバルリンクファミ通カップ」 ''Pokémon Global Link Famitsu Cup'', will be held from Dec. 7 to 11, with registration from Dec. 1 to 6. At this stage only the first 30,000 entrants will be allowed to enter, and the tournament is restricted to those with Japanese versions of {{game|Pokémon Black and White|s}} and Japanese Pokémon Global Link accounts. In order to join the tournament, players must sign up through the Global Battle Union, a part of the Pokémon Global Link.

Furthermore, all Pokémon in the {{bp|National Pokédex}} can be used with the exceptions of {{p|Mewtwo}}, {{p|Mew}}, {{p|Lugia}}, {{p|Ho-oh}}, {{p|Deoxys}}, {{p|Jirachi}}, {{p|Celebi}}, {{p|Groudon}}, {{p|Kyogre}}, {{p|Rayquaza}}, {{p|Diagla}}, {{p|Palkia}}, {{p|Giranta}}, {{p|Phione}}, {{p|Manaphy}}, {{p|Darkrai}}, {{p|Shaymin}}, {{p|Arceus}}, {{p|Victini}}, {{p|Reshiram}}, {{p|Zekrom}}, and {{p|Kyrumem}}. Players will be allowed six Pokémon in their {{bp|Battle Box}} and select three to use for each battle. All battles will be single battles, conducted as a level 50 {{bp|Flat Battle}}, meaning that all Pokémon over level 50 are reduced to level 50 temporarily, but Pokémon under level 50 do not increase in level.
