Tatsumi Kimishima, former president of Pokémon USA and Nintendo of America, has been announced as the new president of Nintendo.

Tatsumi Kimishima

The previous president of Nintendo, Satoru Iwata, held this position from 2000 until his death in July 2015. Following his death, Genyo Takeda and Shigeru Miyamoto took the roles of acting presidents.

Kimishima was appointed representative director of The Pokémon Company in December 2000. Kimishima was president of Pokémon USA from its founding in 2001 until 2002. In January 2002, he became president of Nintendo of America, and retained this position until May 2006, being succeeded by Reggie Fils-Aime. In May 2006, he became CEO and chairman of the board of Nintendo of America, and retained this position until June 2013, when it was taken on by Satoru Iwata. In June 2013, he was appointed managing director of Nintendo Co. Ltd., taking two general manager positions from retiring employees, and held these positions until the present. In June 2014, he was also put in charge of the human resources division at Nintendo Co. Ltd.

Additionally, Genyo Takeda and Shigeru Miyamoto, current senior managing directors and the current acting presidents, have been given new titles. Takeda will be given the title Technology Fellow, while Miyamoto will be given the title Creative Fellow. A fellow is a new type of position at Nintendo, deemed to be an individual "who has advanced knowledge and extensive experience, and holds the role of providing advice and guidance regarding organizational operations in a specialized area".

All of these changes will be active starting September 16, 2015.
