The Treehouse Live at E3 presentation revealed three new Pokémon - Pikipek, Yungoos, and Grubbin. Pikipek is a Normal-type/Flying-type Pokémon. It has the Abilities Keen Eye and Skill Link. It is the Woodpecker Pokémon. It is #10 in the Pokédex and has two evolutions. This bird Pokémon can strike 16 times a second with its beak, which is strong enough to break through stone. Yungoos is a Normal-type Pokémon. It is considered the Loitering Pokémon. It has a height of 2'04" and a weight of 13.2 lbs. It has the Abilities Stakeout and Strong Jaw. Stakeout allows Yungoos to deal double damage to Pokémon that switch in mid-battle. It eats a lot of food since it is never satisfied. It's fangs are so strong that it can crush and eat very hard objects. It stalks prey until it gets tired, and then falls asleep on the route that it was stalking its prey. It was originally not a native of the Alola Region. It has one evolution. It's Japanese name is 「ヤングース』 Yangūsu.

Grubbin is a Bug-type Pokémon. It is considered the Larva Pokémon. It has a height of 1'04" and a weight of 9.7 lbs. Its Ability is Swarm. It uses its jaw to burrow through the ground. It is found by power plants due to its love of electricity. Its Japanese name is 「アゴジムシ』 Agojimushi. It is able to learn the move String Shot.

The starter Pokémon Popplio can learn the moves Disarming Voice. It also has the moves Tackle, Growl, and Water Gun at the beginning of the journey. Litten is shown to be able to use the move Scratch, along with Ember. Rowlet is shown with the moves Growl, Tackle, and Leafage. Magearna's Ability Soul-Heart raises its Special Attack stat by one stage when another Pokémon faints. It will be obtainable by scanning a particular QR code in Pokémon Sun and Moon. The Legendary Pokémon Lunaala's Full Moon phase is activated when it uses its signature move Moongeist Beam. Solgaleo's Radiant Sun phase is activated when it uses its signature move Sunsteel Strike.

In this battle mode, four players each battle with three Pokémon and send out one at a time. After the battle, each trainer is ranked based on how many Pokémon they each knocked out, and Pokémon they have remaining. The Battle Royal is held in the Battle Royal Dome. In the beginning of the game, the neighboring town has a festival. During battle, you are able to see how much a stat is altered on a Pokémon after a move that alters stats is used. When Pokémon are registered in the Pokédex, there are Poké Ball icons that indicate how many Pokémon are in the evolution chain.

Each of the islands of the Alola Region have a guardian Pokémon. The island where the player starts is called Melemele. The name of the guardian for the island is Tapu Koko. The player battles Hau for the festival. In the gameplay dialogue, it is mentioned that the player has met Tapu Koko before in the game. Hau battles with Pichu and Litten for the festival. Attacking moves display whether they are Not Very Effective or Super Effective against the Pokémon the player is battling. This information is displayed in battles that occur after you've faced the Pokémon at least once. It is mentioned that along with being able to choose skin color, players can also customize their clothing in the game.
