Wii titles to be available for digital purchase from Wii U eShop

The January 14th Nintendo Direct revealed that select titles from the Wii console will be available for purchase on the Wii U eShop for US$20.
One of the features of the Wii U console is that it has a Wii Mode, which gives it backwards compatibility with Wii discs. This new form of software available on the eShop may make Wii Mode obsolete by allowing many of the games from the previous console to be accessible from the Wii U's Home Menu.
Another new feature that this brings is that Wii games that were playable using the Wii Classic Controller can be played with the Wii U's Game Pad.
Currently the only Wii titles announced for release on the Wii U eShop are Super Mario Galaxy 2, which became available today, Punch-Out!!, which will be available on January 22nd, and Metroid Prime: Trilogy, which will be available January 29th. Each of these games will be downloadable for US$10 in their respective first weeks of release.
If this proves to be successful, other popular titles from the Wii system may also see ports to the Wii U in the near future, such as Pokémon Battle Revolution and Pokémon Rumble.
