The Alola Friendly Wi-Fi competition has been announced. Players may register between midnight UTC on Jan. 19 and 11:59 p.m. UTC on Jan. 26. The competition will run from midnight UTC on Jan. 27 until 11:59 p.m. UTC on Jan. 29. There will be 50,000 spots on a first-come, first-serve basis. This tournament will use the Single Battles format, with only Pokémon in the Alola Pokédex allowed. All participants who win or lose 3 battles will receive 50 Battle Points. Players born in or after 2002 will be in the Junior/Senior Division. Players born in or prior to 2001 will be in the Master Division. Junior/Senior Division players can only battle between 6 a.m. and 11 p.m. local time. The rankings will be announced some time in February.
Players may only battle using the Pokémon Sun and Moon games. No Mythical or Legendary Pokémon may be used in this competition. Pokémon will also not be allowed to hold Mega Stones. Other items may be used, but each Pokémon must hold a different item. Three to six Pokémon must be registered as a Battle Team for to the competition. Three Pokémon will be used in each battle. All Pokémon will be automatically set to level 50. Each battle will last a maximum of 10 minutes. Players will have 90 seconds to choose which three Pokémon they will battle with, and 60 seconds per turn to attack or switch Pokémon. Players may battle 15 times a day for a maximum of 45 battles. In the Festival Plaza, players can click download rules and select the Alola Friendly rules so that they may be able to practice for the competition prior to it starting.
