Detective Pikachu, a spin-off game for the Nintendo 3DS, has been announced for an international release both digitally and at retail on March 23, 2018. In the game, the titular talking Pikachu becomes partners with the player, Tim Goodman, searching for evidence and clues to solve a series of cases in Ryme City, while investigating the disappearance of Tim's father, Harry Goodman.

Detective Pikachu expands upon the game Detective Pikachu - Birth of a New Duo, which was released exclusively in Japan on the Nintendo eShop in February 2016, adding new locations and additional content to the story. An Easy Mode has also been added, where Detective Pikachu will provide hints on what to do or where to go next.

A special Detective Pikachu amiibo will be released alongside the game that is larger than a regular amiibo. It allows players to view all the Pika Prompts from completed chapters, including ones previously missed.
