The E3 Nintendo Direct has revealed a mass of new information about Pokémon X and Y. The Fairy type will be introduced as a new type that is super effective against Dragon, and the new Pokémon Vivillon and Noivern have been revealed.
Pokémon X and Y have been given the simultaneous worldwide release date of October 12, 2013.
The Fairy type will be introduced as a new type that is super effective against Dragon-type Pokémon. Sylveon will be a pure Fairy type, while Gardevoir has been changed to a Psychic/Fairy type, Marill to a Water/Fairy type, and Jigglypuff to a Normal/Fairy type.
Two new Fairy-type moves have been revealed as well. Moonblast (Japanese: ムーンフォース Moon Force) is a damaging move that Sylveon can learn that calls on the power of the moon to attack; it also lowers the target's Attack stat. Fairy Wind (Japanese: ようせいのかぜ Fairy Wind) is a damaging move that Gardevoir can learn.
Vivillon (Japanese: ビビヨン Bibiyon) is a butterfly-like Bug/Flying Pokémon. It can learn Struggle Bug, a Bug-type move that was introduced in Generation V that lowers the Special Attack of a Pokémon hit by it. It is the evolved form of Spewpa; however, this information has only been revealed on the Spanish, Italian, German, and French Pokémon pages. There is said to be a secret to the colorful patterns on its wings; it uses its wings to scatter its scales and whip up wind to attack. It is 3' 11" tall and weighs 37.5 lbs.
Noivern (Japanese: オンバーン Onbaan) is a wyvern-like Flying/Dragon Pokémon. It is the Sound Wave Pokémon, and its signature move is the Normal-type move Boomburst (Japanese: ばくおんぱ Sound Wave Explosion), which damages all adjacent Pokémon, even allies. Noivern attacks with ultrasonic waves it emits from its ears, which are strong enough to destroy boulders. It is very hostile to anything that comes too close to it; however, it loves fruit so much it can be kept calm by feeding it some. It is 4' 11" tall and weighs 187.4 lbs.
A new feature, known as Pokémon-Amie (Japanese: ポケパルレ Poké Parley), has been introduced. Pokémon-Amie allows players to connect and play with their Pokémon, which will increase their friendship. Players can use this feature on the touch screen, which will help increase their friendship; bigger Pokémon like Snorlax and Tyranitar take up both screens. A high friendship level will help the player's Pokémon to perform better during a battle. However, if a Pokémon is badly treated, it may react negatively towards its Trainer. Players can high-five their Pokémon and feed them treats.
More information about Sylveon has been revealed as well. As well as being revealed to be a Fairy type and being able to learn Moonblast, Sylveon is the Intertwining Pokémon and can emit an aura from its ribbon-like feelers to calm people and Pokémon. It also often wraps its feelers around its Trainer when walking behind him or her.
In German Vivillon is Vivillon and Noivern is UHaFnir; in French Vivillon is Prismillon and Noivern is Bruyverne.
