The Japan Cup 2014 will be held from 9 a.m. on May 2 until 10:59 p.m. on May 5. The tournament may be entered from the Pokémon Global Link website. This tournament is only available for Pokémon X and Y players from Japan that are members of the Pokémon Daisuki Club. Top-ranked players will be given tickets to the Pokémon World Championships Japanese Representatives Deciders tournament.

Registration will be held from 2 p.m. on April 23 until 8:59 a.m. on May 2. 50,000 players will participate in this tournament, with registration being on a first-come first-serve basis. Participants who were born in 2003 or later will be in the Junior Division. Participants who were born between 1999 and 2002 will be in the Senior Division. Participants who were born in 1998 or earlier will be in the Masters Division. Players in the Junior Division are not allowed to participate in battles between 11 p.m. and 6 a.m. during the tournament.

It is a Double Battles tournament, with Mewtwo, Yveltal, Xerneas, Zygarde, and Pokémon that were Poké Transported from the Pokémon Black and White and Pokémon Black 2 and White 2 games considered ineligible and cannot be used in the tournament. The Pokémon must be captured, hatched, or obtained through Mystery Gift and be a part of the three Kalos Pokédexes.

Players must place their Pokémon in the Pokémon Battle Box on the in-game PC. All Pokémon above level 50 will be set to level 50 for the tournament. The rankings will be released on May 9.
