Pokémon animation director Masaaki Iwane (岩根雅明) has stated on a discussion board on his site that the original run for the Pokémon animated television series was 1½ years, partly in response to a poster's musings on the seemingly unaging lead character.

- I remember that originally, when Pokémon started, I was truly surprised to hear that it was planned for a one and a half year run. Series that end up running for a year and a half may not be uncommon, but to have such a plan from the very beginning - that was what amazed me...
