New Pokémon-themed bundles and cover plates have been announced for the United States, Europe, and Australia.

In the United States, the "New Nintendo 3DS Pokémon 20th Anniversary bundle" will be released on February 27, 2016. The bundle includes a New Nintendo 3DS system, pre-installed with Virtual Console versions of both Pokémon Red Version and Pokémon Blue Version. It also includes two sets of cover plates, themed on Pokémon Red Version and Pokémon Blue Version, respectively, as well as a download code for an exclusive HOME Menu theme. (This is the smaller system that has previously only been available in the United States in an Animal Crossing bundle.)

In Europe and Australia, three Nintendo 2DS Special Edition bundles will be released on February 27, 2016. Each bundle includes a transparent red, blue or yellow Nintendo 2DS system, pre-installed with one of Pokémon Red, Pokémon Blue or Pokémon Yellow, respectively. These bundles each also include a sheet of 15 stickers that can be used to customize the system, and a download code for a HOME Menu theme. In Australia, they will retail for $149.95. The stickers are the same in all three bundles. The transparent Nintendo 2DS systems will be released in Japan in similar bundles, and the Transparent Red and Blue models have previously been released in North America, Europe and Australia to promote Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire (bundled with them in some regions).

In Europe and Australia, two new cover plates will also be released. A Pokémon Super Mystery Dungeon cover plate featuring Pokémon from the game, which was previously released in Japan, will be released on February 19, 2016 in Europe and February 20, 2016 in Australia (the same day as Pokémon Super Mystery Dungeon in each region). A cover plate featuring Pokémon sprites from Pokémon Red and Blue, which has not previously been released, will be released in Europe and Australia on February 27, 2016, the same day as its Japanese release. In Australia, they will retail for $24.95.

In Australia, customers who buy Pokémon Super Mystery Dungeon before March 17 on the Nintendo eShop will receive a download code for a free Nintendo 3DS theme featuring Charizard, Pikachu, Bulbasaur and many more. This theme is also available for Australian customers who pre-order the retail version at select retailers (to be confirmed and announced at a later date).

February 27, 2016 is the same date the Generation I core series Pokémon games will be released on Nintendo 3DS Virtual Console, and has been declared "Pokémon Day" by The Pokémon Company International (not to be confused with the events occasionally held in Europe and Singapore). February 27 is the date Pokémon Red and Green were originally released in Japan 20 years prior.

The New Nintendo 3DS Pokémon 20th Anniversary bundle will come with Pokémon Red Version and Pokémon Blue Version pre-installed, two unique cover plates featuring artwork from the original Pokémon Red Version and Pokémon Blue Version game boxes and the Pokémon 20th logo, and a download code for an exclusive Nintendo 3DS Pokémon HOME Menu theme. Timed to coincide with the birth date of Pokémon on February 27, the games that started it all—Pokémon Red, Pokémon Blue and Pokémon Yellow—will be relaunched on Nintendo eShop for systems in the Nintendo 3DS family.

On the same day, three new Nintendo 2DS Special Edition bundles, sure to trigger warm feelings of nostalgia, will also launch. The Special Edition bundles include a Nintendo 2DS system in transparent red, blue or yellow and are pre-installed with Pokémon Red, Pokémon Blue or Pokémon Yellow: Special Pikachu Edition, corresponding to the system’s colour. These Nintendo 2DS Special Edition bundles feature classic packaging reminiscent of the original Game Boy games, a sheet of 15 stickers that can be used to customise the system and a download code for a HOME Menu theme.
