Pokémon fans in France, particularly in the Paris area, will have reason to celebrate in September as a major event, Pokémon Masters 2005, takes place in the City of Sciences and the Industry of Paris on September 17 and 18.

Organized by French Pokémon fansites, most notably Pokémon France (formerly known as PokéLord), the event also has official sponsors as prominent as Nintendo and Bandai. The event can be compared to Japan's Pokémon Festa or the United States' Pokémon Rocks America.

According to the event's website, three championships will take place among players of Pokémon Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald, FireRed, and Leaf Green (French cartridges only, Ho-oh, Lugia, Rayquaza, Mew, Mewtwo, Celebi, Jirachi, Deoxys, Kyogre, and Groudon are prohibited). Two tournaments are open to 512 players pre-registered online via Electronic Sports League. Another tournament will be open to all non-registered fans. The winner of the pre-registered tournaments will be crowned Maître Pokémon 2005.

In addition to playing against other trainers, fans will be able to play the newest Pokémon game for the GameCube, Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness. A trading card game championship will also take place that will introduce the format of Pokémon Organized Play to France, and the latest in anime and merchandise will be showcased. Trainers with Game Boy games will be able to download the Aurora Ticket that will enable them to capture Deoxys. Quizzes and demos will also be available, and fans of Pokémon France will have the opportunity to meet Melanie Christin (aka Meli), the illustrator for the website.

The entry fee for Pokémon Masters 2005 is 10 Euros (taxes included), or five Euros for those already pre-registered in the Game Boy tournament. This fee includes all events and activities within the G.A.M.E. center.

More information and maps on how to get to the event center is available on the official event website.
