Nintendo has announced that as of today, they will no longer be producing the {{bp|Nintendo 3DS XL|3DS XL}} model in Japan, and will instead focus on producing the {{bp|New Nintendo 3DS|New 3DS}} models. This means that everyone who wants a larger-screen handheld platform will have to opt for the New 3DS XL model.
The official Nintendo site has added notices next to all the colors of the {{bp|Nintendo 3DS XL}}, stating either that production will soon cease or that it already has ceased.

The models Mint×White, Blue×Black, Pink×White, Silver×Black, and White will have their production discontinued in the near future. The models Black and Red×Black have already been discontinued.

This has likely been done so that Nintendo can instead focus on producing the {{wp|New Nintendo 3DS|New Nintendo 3DS XL}} models, and so that consumers who wish to purchase a Nintendo 3DS system with larger screens will purchase the New Nintendo 3DS XL.
