The puzzle is impossible.

- Buziel and the Pokémon in the 3rd are the only shinies
- The Shiny Starly must be in the 3rd Pokéball
- Bill is in the 2nd Pokéball
- Bill is between the Buziel and Ron
- Since Bill is in the 2nd, the Buziel must be in the 1st or 3rd
- Shiny Starly is already in the 3rd, Buziel must be in the 1st
- The Shiny Starly in the 3rd must be Ron
- Joe is between the 4th and Turtwig, Joe must be the 3rd or 5th
- Ron is already the 3rd, so Joe must be the 5th
- The remaining unplaced nicknames are: John, Max, and Edward
- The 4th Pokémon is rarely sent out, while Max and Edward are often, so 4 is neither
- The 4th Pokémonpokemon must be John
