The Speed Gamers capture 493 Pokémon
|
The Speed Gamers finished its second Pokémon marathon today. This time, the members of the group managed to capture all 493 Pokémon within 72 hours. There is dispute amongst followers of The Speed Gamers and Pokémon fans alike on the validity of the success of their marathon, as the group suffered technical issues forcing them to start after the previously stated beginning time. They were able to raise, as of 17:30 (UTC) on Dec. 24, $18,358.96, about 122% of their goal of $15,000. These donations will go to Ally's House, a charity that helps families struggling to cope with children who have cancer. Donations can still be made until Christmas eve.
For this marathon, they utilized the Generation III games Ruby, Sapphire, FireRed and LeafGreen, as well as the Generation IV games Pokémon Diamond and Pearl and the Japanese Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver. Event-only Pokémon, such as Arceus and Deoxys, were preloaded onto certain games.
The Speed Gamers is a group based in Texas that plays video games for charity. Last December 2008, they had their first Pokémon marathon for the charity Autism Care and Treatment (ACT Today). They were able to obtain 429 of the 491 Pokémon they were aiming for. Nevertheless, they were able to raise about 18% above their goal of $5,000.
After $5,000 was raised for Ally's House, the group posted a video containing their marathons for 2010. Among the series of games included are Metroid, Earthbound, Mario and Kingdom Hearts. The group has stated that another Pokémon marathon is unlikely until new games are released.
