The Wii Shop Channel will shut down worldwide in 2019. This affects both the Wii Shop Channel on Wii, and the Wii Shop Channel accessible on Wii U using Wii Mode. It does not affect the Wii U eShop.

Customers will no longer be able to add Wii Points starting March 26, 2018 (8 pm UK time). Customers will no longer be able to purchase new titles starting January 31, 2019 (6 am UK time). Customers will still be able to re-download titles they have already purchased until later in 2019, when the Wii Shop Channel will shut down completely.

This affects several Pokémon WiiWare and Wii Virtual Console titles. My Pokémon Ranch, Pokémon Rumble, and the Japan-exclusive WiiWare Pokémon Mystery Dungeon games (Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Keep Going! Blazing Adventure Squad, Let's Go! Stormy Adventure Squad, and Go For It! Light Adventure Squad) can only be purchased from the Wii Shop Channel. The Nintendo 64 Virtual Console games Pokémon Snap, Pokémon Puzzle League, and Super Smash Bros. are also available on the Wii Shop Channel; of these, only Pokémon Snap has been released on the Wii U eShop.
