Nintendo HK has announced that they will be holding the 2017 Video Game Regional Championships in both Hong Kong and Taiwan. Winners of these tournaments will be presented with the opportunity to participate in the upcoming 2017 Pokémon World Championships to be held in the US. Interested players must have an account on the Play! Pokémon website. In order to partake in the tournament, players must first register on the Google Forms provided by the official websites. Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis. 

The Taiwan Video Game National Championships will be held in {{wp|Taipei City Mall}} Square No. 1 on May 28, 2016. The event will start at 10 am and ends at 8 pm. Only 80 players can partake in this tournament. 

The Hong Kong Video Game National Championships will be held on June 17, 2017 in a venue to be disclosed at a later date. The event will start at 10 am and ends at 8 pm. Only 80 players can partake in this tournament.
